Our approach (all Heliotone apps)
Heliotone builds focused, offline-first apps. Our apps are designed so that your personal data stays on your device by default, and we ask only for the information genuinely needed to make a feature work. Privacy practices can differ from app to app, so each app receives its own policy section on this page as it is released. Statements that apply to a specific app are labeled with that app's name; everything in this section applies company-wide.
This page currently contains the policy for Reprise: Karaoke Setlist. Policies for future apps, such as Double Feature, will be added here when those apps are released.
Reprise: Karaoke Setlist
Everything from here down applies specifically to Reprise: Karaoke Setlist as available on Google Play. You do not need to create an account to use Reprise.
Information we collect
Reprise stores your data locally on your own device. This includes the songs on your lists along with their ratings, scores, tags, genres, and notes, your queue, your profile name and any singer names you save, and your settings. There is no account, and Heliotone keeps no copy of your lists or any database of user data. The only Heliotone-operated service the app ever contacts is the song-lookup relay described in the next section, and it is not used to identify you. If you contact us for support by email, we receive only the information you choose to include in that message.
When the app looks things up
To fill in a song's genre, tags, length, and language, and to suggest matching songs while you type, the app sends only the song title and artist you entered to third-party music catalogs. It uses the Apple Music catalog (with Apple's iTunes Search API as a fallback) to identify the song, Discogs to look up genre tags, and MusicBrainz for language. These lookups are subject to each of those services' own privacy policies.
Apple Music, Discogs, and MusicBrainz requests travel through a small relay service that Heliotone operates on heliotone.com. The relay exists for technical reasons (it attaches the credentials and headers those services require) and simply passes your search along: it adds no information about you or your device beyond what any web request carries. Heliotone keeps no record of who searched for what; the relay does briefly cache a lookup's result, keyed by the song and shared across everyone, so a popular song is not looked up over and over, and that cache holds only public catalog data, never anything about you. Like virtually all web services, the relay's hosting provider (Netlify) may keep routine, short-lived technical logs, such as IP addresses, which Heliotone does not use to identify anyone.
Automatic background lookups can be turned off in the app under "Song details" in Controls. Typing in the song search field performs a lookup of what you typed, as any search does.
Analytics and tracking
Reprise uses no analytics, no usage tracking, and no third-party trackers. Nothing about how you use the app is collected or sent anywhere.
Purchases and in-app billing
Reprise offers optional one-time purchases, none of which are subscriptions. Full Access removes the limit on how many songs you can save, and it unlocks importing lists from a file, exporting and printing your lists, and sharing them with friends. Custom looks (premium visual themes) are optional add-ons to Full Access, sold individually; a bundle purchase grants Full Access and one custom look together. Full Access users can export their list as a file and share it through the device share sheet or Quick Share on Android. Your performance ratings, score history, and private notes are never included in an exported list.
All purchases are handled by Google Play, and prices shown in the app come from Google Play. Heliotone receives only limited, non-payment information, such as which item you purchased and a purchase or receipt token, and uses it solely to deliver, validate, and restore your purchases. Heliotone never receives or stores your payment card details. You can restore purchases through Google Play, and refunds are handled by Google Play under its own policy.
Data sharing
We do not sell your data, and we do not share personal data with third parties except where required by law. The one exception is the song lookups described above, which send only the song title and artist to the third-party music services (the Apple Music catalog, Apple's iTunes Search API, Discogs, and MusicBrainz) so the app can suggest matches and fill in song details. You can turn automatic lookups off in the app.
Your choices and rights
Because your data lives on your device, you can review or delete it at any time by editing the relevant records or by uninstalling the app. For any questions about your data, contact us at jon@heliotone.com.
Children's privacy
Because the app stores everything on your own device and collects nothing, it gathers no personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as our apps evolve, including if we add optional online features in the future. When we do, we will revise the date above. Material changes will be communicated within the app or on this page.
